Abstract
Sorption is a term used for water ingress into pores under unsaturated conditions due to capillary suction. Sorptivity testing has been used as a measure of the ability of concrete to absorb water. Sorptivity tests were conducted on three concrete mixtures, which had been preconditioned to various initial moisture contents. Results show that the sorptivity is dependent on initial water content as well as the water to cement ratio of concrete. A linear trend was found relating normalized sorptivity values to degree of saturation.
