The earth is estimated to be 4.5 billion years old. It spun off of the sun and settled into its current orbit accounting for the four seasons. Initially, the earth was a molten mass having a rotation of its own, accounting for day and night. With time, a giant land mass called Pangaea formed, split-up, and gradually drifted apart forming the continents.
